Local Veterinary Technician Voted “Tops” At Bay Hill Cat Hospital
National Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week is October 12th-18th
Orlando, FL – The doctors and staff at Bay Hill Cat Hospital have chosen Amy Cullen to honor during the National Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week, celebrated from October 12–18, 2008. The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) organizes this event each year in order to celebrate and highlight the critical role these “pet nurses” play in caring for animals.
A beloved family cat named Sadie arrived at the hospital having severe seizures. Amy Cullen jumped right into action, and stabilized the patient as the doctor administered life-saving drugs. Dr. Diane Delmain explained that Cullen earned her honor that day. “Amy had everything ready before I even needed it that day. She was very diligent in her monitoring, and let me know of the slightest changes in her condition.” Sadie recovered and was reunited with her grateful family.
The doctors and staff at Bay Hill Cat Hospital decided to recognize Cullen not only because of her quick thinking, but also due to her devotion, compassion and understanding. They describe her as a great communicator who makes sure the clients understand what is happening with their pets.
“I love working with animals every day. My life would not be complete without them,” explained Cullen. “I like being able to help save their lives. The reward for saving sick cats is priceless, especially when you see how grateful they are to have you helping them,” Cullen added. Although she enjoys many aspects of her job, Amy especially likes assisting in surgery and doing treatments on critical care patients. She has been veterinary technician for eight years, four of those years with Bay Hill Cat Hospital. Amy lives in Orlando with her two cats, Memphis and Jingles.
“Vet tech week provides an opportunity to honor veterinary technicians for the outstanding job they do,” said Andrea Ball, NAVTA executive director. The veterinary technician is an integral member of the veterinary health care team who has been educated in the care and handling of animals, the basic principles of normal and abnormal life processes, and in routine laboratory and clinical procedures. The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America celebrates National Veterinary Technician week annually to recognize veterinary technicians nationwide, for their contributions as members of the veterinary health care team.
